Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Training and Support Services the Hardware Support Specialist is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of college, faculty, staff and student owned computers and peripherals. The Hardware Support Specialist is also responsible for the inventory of computer systems and peripherals installed at the college. This individual works cooperatively with Support Consultant I, Support Consultant II, Student Computer Support Center support representatives and divisional technology support representatives coordinating hardware upgrades, hardware installation, and repairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Perform timely repair of desktop and laptop computers used by all members of the college community.
2) Provide field service calls to troubleshoot hardware problems when phone support is proves to be inadequate.
3) Serves as escalation contact for identified hardware related problems.
4) Maintains the inventory of the College’s computer hardware.
5) Promotes a positive and professional work environment.
6) Refers users with software related problems to appropriate support consultant.
7) Installs college hardware and upgrades.
8) Arranges for advanced computer and printer repairs with service vendors.
9) Delegate tasks from the Tickets database to T&S student workers when appropriate.
10) Works cooperatively and shares knowledge freely with appropriate IT staff to access additional support from technical specialists and deliver solutions to the customers.
11) Works cooperatively with IT staff, Learning Resources staff, Divisional and Area Distributed Support staff and Dormitory Resident Support Technical Assistants.
12) Maintain, set-up and arrange for sign-out or delivery of T&S equipment as authorized by department leadership.
13) Stay current with existing and emerging computer technologies.
14) Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1) BA preferred, minimum of 3 – 5 years of computer support experience.
2) Apple Desktop Technician certification.
3) Apple Laptop Technician certification.
4) Persuasive interpersonal and follow up skills. The ability to interact, communicate and work well with others.
5) Excellent organizational skills.
6) Previous experience in an office setting using networked desktop computer systems and printers.
7) Demonstrated specialized knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems and hardware. A functional and working knowledge of administrative software associated with these systems.
8) Specialized knowledge of the functions and operations of the desktop computers, peripherals, and printers used at the college, in order to assist users with hardware problems and communicate those problems to the appropriate service vendor when necessary..
9) Possesses professional phone and writing skills.
10) The ability to learn existing and emerging computer technologies quickly.
